Resident Evil 4
May 21, 2019 7 years ago
Resident Evil 4 is directly based off the Wii port, having all the new features that the Wii added. Some of the key features of this version are stunning HD graphics running at a smooth 60 frames per second for the first time. It also features a complete visual overhaul to bring this revered title to the highest graphical quality ever. It has been fully optimized for the wide screen, texts have been sharpened and textures have been upgraded on characters, backgrounds and in-game objects. However, it should be noted that the cutscenes of the Separate Ways scenario are not in HD and have had their resolution lowered and placed in sepia format. Aside from the updated HUD, the Movie Browser is fixed to now display real time cut-scenes instead of the PS2 pre-rendered cut-scene, like it was the Wii version. The Mercenaries costumes cheat remain and fully work.
What it’s like
This is a masterclass in kinetic survival horror, transforming a classic into a relentlessly exciting third-person shooter. The experience centers on a tense, linear journey through a hostile European village, where atmosphere and dread are paramount. Combat is tight and responsive, demanding precise aiming and resource management rather than brute force. The narrative serves as a vehicle for escalating tension, supported by sharp dialogue and memorable character interactions that balance humor with genuine fear. Visually and audibly, the game is stunning, using modern graphics to enhance the visceral impact of every encounter. While the story itself is straightforward, the craft lies in the pacing; it expertly alternates between high-octane action sequences and quiet moments of exploration, maintaining a constant sense of urgency. The progression feels rewarding as you unlock better gear, but the core thrill comes from mastering the refined mechanics against increasingly desperate foes.

Keep in mind The narrative is relatively simple and serves primarily to support the action, which may disappoint players seeking deep literary complexity. Additionally, the linear structure limits open-world exploration, focusing instead on curated, high-tension corridors.
