Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
Jun 03, 2010 16 years ago
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is a video game and sequel to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It picks up where The Sands of Time left off, adding new features, specifically, options in combat. The Prince now has the ability to wield two weapons at a time as well as the ability to steal his enemies' weapons and throw them. The Prince's repertoire of combat moves has been expanded into varying strings that allow players to attack enemies with more complexity than was possible in the previous game. Warrior Within has a darker tone than its predecessor adding in the ability for the Prince to dispatch his enemies with various finishing moves. In addition to the rewind, slow-down, and speed-up powers from The Sands of Time, the Prince also has a new sand power: a circular "wave" of sand that knocks down all surrounding enemies as well as damaging them.
What it’s like
Warrior Within transforms the Prince from a whimsical trickster into a desperate, mortal figure fighting against an inescapable curse. The experience is defined by its oppressive, hostile atmosphere and a darker, more mature tone that strips away the fairy-tale charm of its predecessor. Gameplay centers on visceral, real-time combat where dual-wielding, weapon stealing, and complex move strings create a fluid yet punishing fight loop. The narrative structure relies heavily on time manipulation mechanics, framing the story around a tragic cycle of death and rebirth. While the environmental puzzles and platforming remain sharp, they serve primarily as pacing breaks between intense encounters. The craft emphasizes weighty animations and a gritty aesthetic, creating a sense of urgency and desperation that permeates every level. It is a cohesive, aggressive action-adventure that prioritizes combat intensity and atmospheric dread over open-ended exploration.

Keep in mind The game’s difficulty can be unforgiving due to the Prince's fragility and lack of health regeneration, which may frustrate players seeking a relaxed experience. Additionally, the linear level design offers minimal exploration compared to later entries in the genre.
