Lost Planet 3 introduces Jim Peyton, a rig pilot who leaves Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. Working for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC) who are preparing the planet for colonization, Jim joins his fellow pioneers at the Coronis base and begins surveying the uncharted terrain and obtaining samples of the planet’s energy supply – Thermal Energy. With NEVEC’s existing Thermal Energy reserve running low the fate of the Coronis mission depends on the natural source of the energy supply being located. Lost Planet 3 will deliver a diverse range of gameplay including on-foot battles and intense first person action. With a number of multiplayer modes and a compelling single player experience, Lost Planet 3 will delve deeper into the Lost Planet universe, uncovering hidden truths within the unique and dynamic environment of E.D.N. III.
What it’s like
Lost Planet 3 is a third-person shooter prequel that shifts focus from the franchise's signature mech combat to on-foot survival and exploration. You play as Jim Peyton, a rig pilot navigating the harsh, alien landscape of E.D.N. III for a colonial corporation. The experience is defined by its atmospheric tension; the environment feels genuinely hostile and cold, with weather conditions that actively obstruct vision and impact gameplay. While the narrative attempts to ground the sci-fi setting in personal stakes, the writing often struggles to match the ambition of the world-building. Combat relies on cover-based shooting and melee interactions against insectoid aliens, but it frequently devolves into repetitive encounters. The multiplayer component offers standard team-based modes with persistent progression, though it lacks distinct identity. Visually, the game presents a polished, high-definition alien wilderness that serves as the true highlight of the experience.
Strong in Atmosphere / Mood
Keep in mind The campaign suffers from significant repetition in both mission structure and combat encounters, which can make the pacing feel sluggish despite its cinematic presentation. The multiplayer is generic and fails to leverage the unique setting, making it less compelling than the atmospheric single-player world.
