YIIK is a colourful 3D Japanese-Style RPG set in the 1990s and based around a mystery in a small town. Recent college graduate Alex Eggleston gathers weirdos from the internet to investigate the mystery around Sammy Pak, a mysterious woman who goes missing in a supernatural event. The player can control the characters in turn based battles where normal everyday objects are used as weapons. The combat consists of turn based moves with timing based actions which can increase the damage of an attack. There are six dungeons to explore which include battles, puzzles which have to be solved, and traps that have to be avoided. There are approximately twenty five hours of gameplay.

What it’s like

YIIK: A Postmodern RPG delivers a surreal, low-poly journey through 1990s digital culture and millennial anxiety. The narrative follows a group of internet-savvy misfits investigating the disappearance of Sammy Pak, blending mundane modern problems with eldritch horror. The tone is quirky, melancholic, and deeply self-aware, drawing heavy inspiration from EarthBound’s weirdness but filtered through a postmodern lens. Combat utilizes turn-based mechanics where everyday objects serve as weapons, augmented by timing-based inputs for damage multipliers. While the structure includes six distinct dungeons with puzzles, the experience is defined more by its heartfelt character dynamics and emotional resonance than mechanical precision. The game prioritizes an intangible, nostalgic payoff over tight design, creating a cult-classic atmosphere that feels both dated and timeless.

Keep in mind The inconsistent art style and clunky combat timing can make the experience feel frustrating or confusing for players seeking polished mechanics. It is best suited for those who appreciate weird, narrative-driven indies over traditional RPG standards.
