Sublevel Zero: Redux
Oct 17, 2019 7 years ago
Sublevel Zero Redux is a first-person roguelike six-degree-of-freedom shooter set in a universe where reality is falling apart. Take control of a lone gunship pilot whose mission is to loot and craft ancient technology. Descend into a vast underground facility, fighting through procedurally generated zero gravity environments to recover the technology you and your clan need to survive. Inspired by classics such as 1996’s Descent and 1998’s Forsaken, Sublevel Zero Redux is the first classic 6DoF shooter on console in over a decade. Sigtrap have remastered, extended and improved their debut PC title Sublevel Zero to create Redux. New enemies, difficulty options and unlockable content make Redux the definitive version of the game.
What it’s like
Sublevel Zero: Redux delivers a visceral, high-octane arcade experience rooted in the legacy of 1990s spatial shooters. You pilot a gunship through procedurally generated, zero-gravity corridors, engaging in frantic dogfights where movement is as critical as aim. The core loop revolves around surviving waves of enemies to loot resources and craft superior weaponry, creating a satisfying cycle of risk and reward. While the narrative premise involves a desperate mission to save your clan by recovering ancient tech, it serves primarily as a backdrop for the action rather than a focal point. The atmosphere is tense and industrial, amplified by sharp audio cues that help navigate the disorienting 3D space. Visually, the remaster updates the classic aesthetic with cleaner textures and stable performance, ensuring the chaotic combat remains readable. The game prioritizes mechanical mastery and reflexive gameplay over complex storytelling or deep narrative immersion.

Keep in mind The narrative is minimal and largely ignored in favor of action, which may disappoint players seeking a strong story. The zero-gravity movement can be disorienting for newcomers, requiring a significant learning curve to master spatial orientation effectively.
