What it’s like
Sonic Frontiers reimagines the franchise by placing high-speed platforming into vast, semi-open 'Starfall Islands.' The experience is defined by its breathtaking visuals and a soundtrack that perfectly complements the adrenaline of sprinting through dense forests and sizzling deserts. Gameplay centers on traversal; players must maintain momentum to reach new areas, with combat introduced as a rhythmic, dodge-heavy system that feels like an extension of the movement rather than a separate mechanic. Progression is driven by collecting Chaos Emeralds and unlocking skills in a branching tree, offering tangible growth for those who enjoy mastering the flow of speed. While the narrative provides a sci-fi backdrop involving lost friends and ancient mysteries, it serves primarily as motivation for exploration. The tone shifts between vibrant, cheerful adventure and moments of existential isolation, creating a unique mood that balances lighthearted platforming with surprisingly deep environmental storytelling.

Keep in mind The open zones can feel repetitive due to sparse enemy variety and large empty spaces between objectives. Performance issues and frame drops may detract from the smoothness expected in a Sonic title.
