Over the Hedge
Jun 08, 2006 20 years ago
In the video game, which takes place a year after the movie, RJ, Hammy, Verne, and the gang feel that they need to have more things for the log (the area behind the hedge). This leads them on a wild romp through six different areas to snatch different things such as a popcorn machine and a TV for themselves. There are several mini games as bonuses in the game. All through the game, they try to take these things while avoiding the Sniffer, (Dwayne the Verminator), who tries to defeat them by using mind-controlled vermin he has captured as his "henchmen." At one point, many animals, including weasels, badgers, and even Vincent the bear are controlled.
What it’s like
This title is a vibrant, third-person platformer that faithfully adapts the film’s chaotic energy into interactive form. Players control RJ, Verne, and Hammy through six distinct suburban environments, blending light stealth mechanics with platforming challenges to steal resources from a housing development. The experience is defined by its polished presentation; the visuals capture the movie's cartoony aesthetic with fluid animations, while the audio design brings the anthropomorphic cast to life with witty dialogue and humorous sound effects. Pacing remains brisk, driven by a lighthearted tone and accessible difficulty that prioritizes fun over frustration. A notable highlight is the inclusion of split-screen co-op, allowing friends to join the romp simultaneously. While the narrative is simple and serves primarily as a vehicle for action, the character interactions provide genuine charm. The game feels like a high-quality party experience, emphasizing shared laughter and cooperative problem-solving rather than deep strategic complexity or emotional weight.

Keep in mind The platforming mechanics are relatively shallow and linear, lacking the depth required for seasoned action-platformer enthusiasts. · As a licensed tie-in, the story is thin and exists solely to support the gameplay loop, offering little narrative substance.
