Synopsis
Everspace is an action-focused single-player space shooter with rock solid 6DOF controls combining roguelike elements with top-notch visuals and a captivating non-linear story as well as VR support in the final version.
What it’s like
Everspace delivers a visceral, arcade-style space combat experience grounded in tight six-degrees-of-freedom mechanics. The core loop revolves around navigating procedurally generated sectors, engaging in fast-paced dogfights, and managing resources through a roguelite structure where death resets progress but retains some upgrades. Visually, the game is a standout, offering crisp, high-fidelity environments that emphasize clarity during chaotic battles. The narrative unfolds non-linearly across these randomized runs, providing context for the player’s journey without overshadowing the action. While the story and character interactions are engaging enough to maintain interest between runs, they serve primarily as scaffolding for the gameplay. The atmosphere is tense yet exhilarating, driven by explosive sound design and responsive controls. VR support enhances immersion, making every dogfight feel personal and immediate. The game balances accessibility with challenge, rewarding skillful maneuvering and strategic loadout choices over complex simulation management.

Keep in mind The roguelite structure may frustrate players who dislike repetitive runs or lack of persistent world continuity. Combat, while polished, leans heavily on arcade mechanics rather than deep tactical simulation, which might disappoint hardcore space sim enthusiasts.
