Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Oct 18, 2019 7 years ago
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, developed by Media.Vision and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, and based on the Digimon franchise. It is the fifth game in the Digimon Story series, following 2011's Super Xros Wars, and the first to be released on home consoles. A Digimon game that borrows and improves a lot of elements from Game Freak's Pokemon games, and Digimons can be Captured/Scanned. The battle system for this game has a lot similarities to CTB (conditional turn based) from Final Fantasy X.
What it’s like
Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth delivers a dense, narrative-driven JRPG experience set within a vibrant digital underworld. The premise casts you as a detective navigating a cyberpunk metropolis where data and reality blur, requiring you to investigate mysteries while managing a team of captured Digimon. The writing is widely praised for its mature tone and intricate plotting, distinguishing itself from typical monster-collecting fare by focusing on character dynamics and a compelling mystery structure. Combat utilizes a conditional turn-based system reminiscent of Final Fantasy X, offering strategic depth through timing and positioning rather than raw stats. Visually, the game boasts sharp anime-style aesthetics that capture the franchise's energy. While the core loop involves standard exploration and grinding for resources, the strong narrative pacing and engaging side cases keep the momentum high, creating a cohesive and emotionally resonant adventure for fans of story-heavy RPGs.

Keep in mind The gameplay loop relies heavily on repetitive monster capturing and random encounters, which may feel grindy to players seeking variety. Difficulty is generally forgiving, potentially lacking challenge for veterans of the genre.
