Alien: Isolation
Dec 05, 2019 7 years ago
Alien: Isolation is a survival horror game based on the Alien franchise. As Amanda Ripley, daughter of Ellen Ripley, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked population and an unpredictable Alien. You must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission but to simply stay alive. In addition to the main story mode there's Survivor mode in which the player needs to escape from a specially designed map fulfilling secondary objectives along the way, while being aggressively hunted by the alien. This mode includes online leaderboards.
What it’s like
Alien: Isolation immerses you in a relentless, first-person survival horror experience defined by atmospheric dread rather than action. You play as Amanda Ripley on the Sevastopol station, scavenging for resources while evading an AI-driven Xenomorph that learns from your behavior. The core loop emphasizes stealth, crafting, and tension; combat is virtually non-existent, forcing you to hide in lockers or vents. The game excels in its sensory craft, utilizing stunning visuals and a haunting audio landscape to create palpable fear. While the narrative serves primarily as a vehicle for this tension, the environmental storytelling and immersive world-building are top-tier. However, the experience can feel repetitive due to the constant need to manage limited supplies and avoid detection, with some players finding the pacing uneven during quieter exploration segments.

Keep in mind The lack of meaningful combat may frustrate players seeking agency or action-oriented horror. Additionally, the AI's ability to learn can sometimes lead to frustrating, seemingly unfair encounters that feel more like trial-and-error than skill-based gameplay.
